Lillian Mae Johnson 1934–2014

Lillian Mae Johnson Sarten, 79, of Lenoir City, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Feb. 12, 2014. She was a caring and devoted wife, mother and "Neenie" to her grandchildren, playing a significant and influential role in their lives. She loved children and took care of many over the years as the family moved to U.S. Air Force bases in Texas, South Dakota, Alaska, Mississippi, South Carolina and California before returning to Tennessee. Lillian was a member and children's Sunday school teacher at Kingston Pike Baptist Church for many years and most recently a resident at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation in Loudon.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Herbert Sarten Sr.; parents, Russell H. and Vancie (Terry) Johnson; brothers, David, John, Russell Jr. and Larry Johnson; and sisters, Barbara Lane and Linda Johnson.

She is survived by daughter, Kathy Brown and husband, Tracy, of Oak Ridge; daughter, Carolyn Bible and husband, Walter, of Lenoir City; son, Herbert Sarten II and wife, Melissa, of Lenoir City; grandchildren, Trey and John Sarten, Caitlyn Bible, and Leah and Aaron Brown; brother, Kenneth Johnson of Lenoir City; sisters, Sarah Louise Cook of Glendale and Joyce White of Sweetwater; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to the nurses and staff of Kindred Healthcare and Amedisys for their compassionate care.

The family received friends 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Kingston Pike Baptist Church in Lenoir City. Funeral services followed at 7 p.m. with Dr. Ronny Jones officiating. Family and friends gathered at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. Sunday and proceeded to Loudon County Memorial Gardens for 2 p.m. graveside services.
