A.P. Harmon

Funeral services for A.P. Harmon were held Saturday afternoon in the Methodist church at 2 o'clock, following a family prayer service in the Mr. and Mrs. Russell Harmon home at 1:30 o'clock. The services were conducted by the Rev. Paul Johnson, pastor of the Methodist church, who used for his text at the church service: "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternals in the heavens." - II Corinthians 5:1. A quartet composed of Miss Minnie Williams, Mrs. Harold Bass, A.T. Johnson and Sam Swedlund, sang: "Abide With Me" and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought." The Rev. A.E. Appelquist sang "God's Tomorrow." The remains were interred in Oakwood cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank Poulson, Ivan Poulson, Lester Poulson, Orris Poulson, Ferman Swanson, Fred Kelley.

Andrew Peter Harmon, son of Peter and Anna Harmon, was born at Skog socken, Gefleborgslan, Sweden, on June 1, 1848, and died in the county hospital in Webster City Nov. 11, 1936, at the age of 88 years, 4 months, 25 days. He was one of a family of fourteen children, all having preceded him in death but two: one brother, Walter O., of East Chicago, Ind., and one sister, Christina.

On June 3, 1874, he was united in marriage to Hannah Poulson and of this union six children were born. Four preceded him in death, two sons in infancy and one daughter, Edna, at the 3 years, and one son, George Hanley, in July, 1919. His wife died Sept. 14, 1914.

The surviving children are: Mrs. Nellie Hamilton, of Webster City and Russell of Stratford. Besides his two children, he is survived by a granddaughter, Doris Hamilton and son-in-law, Frank D. Hamilton, both of Webster City, and two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Russell Harmon and Mrs. Olga Harmon and several nieces and nephews.

On Sept. 22, 1895 deceased united with the local Methodist church of which he was a faithful member for many years.

Until just the past few months, Mr. Harmon had been in very good health for one of his years. He was ever jolly, willing to help in time of need and sympathetic to those in trouble. As one of the pioneers of this part of Iowa he has had a large part in the progress made by modern science and invention.
